In light of the article published by Sky News, dated 24 March 2015: http://news.sky.com/story/1451696/driver-caught-at-140mph-with-child-passenger; Mert Tanay, a 26-year-old motorist, who lives in Enfield, north London was caught speeding at 140mph with a child passenger in the front passenger seat. Mr. Mert Tanay was apprehended at a junction 9 on the M20 coast bound carriageway in September 2014 when Officers in an unmarked police car had been monitoring the speed of another vehicle when he overtook them in his black BMW 323 at around 90mph. The police said that his speed rose to 115mph as he weaved through traffic, before slowing to 90mph and then increasingly to 140mph. A 6-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat was visibly shaken, when Tanay pulled the car over. Sergeant Chris Wade of Kent's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The speed and manner of Mert Tanay's driving in this case showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users, not to mention that of his young passenger who looked very-shaken by his experience." Tanay reportedly claimed that he was suffering from a Urological complaint and that's why he has been speeding. When Mr. Tanay appeared before Canterbury Crown Court last Thursday, he was banned and ordered to perform 50 hours' unpaid work. In addition, to get his License back he must pass an extended driving test; he must pay a £60 victim charge and £100 in prosecution cost.
